With the rise of the Johannesburg gold rush in 1886, this land not only drew the attention of adventurers worldwide but also unveiled the greed of humanity and the exploitation of power. As the gold fever subsided, the abandoned mines gradually fell into obscurity, yet they became the starting point for a reflection of human society's darker side. A hundred years later, these former mines evolved into a massive underground structure—a self-sustaining yet sinister subterranean city.
This project, presented in the form of a comic, tells a fictional story that delves deeply into themes of class conflict and the logic of exploitation. Through the perspective of a protagonist who has lost his memory, the narrative gradually uncovers the core secret of this structure: it is not merely a space for survival but a deliberately designed social experiment, meant to test the stability and efficiency of an exploitative system.
The story treats the architecture as a microcosm of societal rules, questioning whether human civilization can ever escape the logic of exploitation. The protagonist's eventual identity reveal reflects the profound irony of the designer’s intent: even the creator of the system cannot escape the chains of the rules they imposed. His struggle becomes nothing more than an act of "self-validation," proving the immutability of the exploitative framework.
By intertwining history and fiction, the project uses architecture as a narrative device and serves as a metaphor for modern society.
